A traditional red Italian table wine, our ‘Burgundy’ has been produced at Bernardo Winery since before prohibition age and named after this prestigious French region simply out of Old-California winemaking tradition. The early winemakers of California wanted to make the wine sound “fancy” by naming it a French region known for the best wines in the world, a tongue-in-cheek moment that defined a style of its own. Bernardo Winery was as classic of an early California winery as any, producing gallon jugs of the Burgundy to be poured more frivolously than water in lots of family homes through Southern California.
To this day, we still plan and produce a California Heritage Burgundy.
Tasting Notes: cherry, blueberry, light oak, and mellow tannin.
