Meet the Artist for the month of August 2017
~ Ginger Lou

Meet the Artist:

Ginger Louise-aka “Ginger Lou” began her art career as a painter and airbrush artist. Her work has been used by many contemporary musicians, including: The Black Eyed Peas, Peaches, Jack Johnson, G Love and Special Sauce. She was one of the first San Diego artists to spark the body painting trend that is still going on today and in 2003 coordinated, Visual Graffiti, one of the first fashion trunk shows in San Diego. Many of the artists are still active today, True Delorenzo, Sean Dietrich, Johnny Tran (DJ and event coordinator/Thumbprint gallery owner), and more.

At the peak of her success she dropped out of the artist spotlight for several years because of an illness which caused sensitivity to chemicals including paint. Her rejuvenation into the art scene explores the uses of non-toxic glue and paper to create very painterly collage pieces, which visually map the path of her emotional experience and transformation as an artist.

Her work consists of intuitive, imaginative and vibrant collage, mixed media, photography, lighting elements and greeting cards, using repurposed vintage as well as modern day images. Her work embodies her free, honest, positive and creative spirit.

In addition to creating her own art she enjoys teaching adults and children to play within their own creative spirits.

Her themes delve into subject matter such as The Hero’s Journey, which shows how we grow from ignorance to enlightenment through various stages of development, both individually as well as collectively.
